30 Mar Gasket Seal Electrical Outlets
If you add up all the gaps between a home’s outlets, gaskets, and lighting fixtures, you’d have a basketball-sized hole in the building envelope. Here are some of our common practices used to stop outlet air leaking and create a stronger building envelope.
As we know, if we add up all the gaps around lights, outlets, switch plates and things like that, we end up with on average a basketball-size hole in our home envelope.
So, what we’re going to do now is show you a way that you can address air leakage around your outlets and switches. So, the first thing we’re going to do is take off the cover plate. Behind the cover plate, we’re going to install a foam gasket which can be found in most of the major big box stores and these gaskets can be modified for switches and outlets simply just by taking out the knock out in the center.
We simply just install that around the outlet and put our cover plate back on.
