Block Attic Pocket Vents

Block Attic Pocket Vents

To achieve proper ventilation and air sealing in an attic, you need to review the home’s ventilation system. We take a look at some common concepts and practices needed to get an attic optimized for energy efficiency and healthy ventilation overall.

We’ve identified some things we need to accomplish in this attic to get proper ventilation and proper air sealing.

In every home, we need to review the home’s ventilation system and whether or not it’s got passive ventilation or mechanical ventilation or perhaps a powered fan.

In this case, we have a powered fan on this roof and we also have pocket vents up near the powered fan. This is causing a short-circuited ventilation system. We want to create intake air from low on the attic floor to be exhausted through the fan up near the peak of the roof. What’s happening is the fan is allowed to take it’s intake air from the pocket vent which is near the top of the roof. What we need to do is get up on a ladder and block out those six pocket vents fan near the fan from inside the attic.
